We meet a very good band from Sweden, and We wanted you to meet too! We interviewed the guys from Katakomb! After this interview you’ll never want to hear another band.
Tracklist: Talk a little bit about each one of you guys and about your work as well. Introduce yourself to Brazil.
Katakomb: We’re a trio from Gothenburg, spending our time up north in a dark cave among seasick sailors and drunken bikers. At first we started out making more computer-based music with an electronic vibe. Nowadays our music is more live based, more focused on working with analog synthesizers and hardwares instead of digital. Our music preferences varies a lot within the constellation but eventually it seems we’ve found a way that everyone feels ok with. Rock!
Tracklist: How did you guys come up with the name “KATAKOMB”? When I talked about the band with some people they thought that you guys were like a Goth band just because of the band name! lol
Katakomb: We actually like to let people think we’re a goth band and that we’re more dangerous and scary than we really are. And then surprise them by not being goth at all and just being a couple of friendly, easy-going fellows – which I’m certain that most goth bands are as well.
Tracklist: As I’ve read about you, you guys do not consider yourself a INDIE band. However, following our patterns here in Brazil, you guys are part of this genre. What do you guys think about that?
Katakomb: Although the indie music scene in Gothenburg have been affecting us a lot, we’ve surely been trying to come up with something new. However, maybe other people with other preferences would put a big indie stamp on our album. I don’t know, but we’re definitely trying to keep as much doors open as possible. Even if the music eventually ends up in indie land.
Tracklist: What are your musical influences?
Katakomb: It probably depends on who you’re asking, but whenever there’s a fight we usually end up uniting to the song “Up where we belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. Not sure if that’s a fair guideline though.
Tracklist: What were the most difficult thing you’ve been through in the music scenario? Is there something stopping you guys from becoming a successful trio?
Katakomb: One time we got served cold coffee at soundcheck, the taste was alright though. Other than that most things runs pretty smooth. And no, there’s no stopping us.
Tracklist: What inspire you guys to write your songs? I can see that your songs are quite unique and authorial. Is there a rule to write or the lyrics just pops into your head?
Katakomb: Ideas come and go all the time, it’s more about recognising them as good or bad than having them. Everybody does. Anything could inspire, whether it’s a freaky sound on the synth, a bad tv-show or simply a nice friend.
Tracklist: By your Facebook page and your website as well, I could see that you guys are well recognized in your country. How the fans treat you? If you come to Brazil, the indie girls would go nuts! LOL
Katakomb: We love our fans, they are really nice to us. Bless you all. We would’t be anything without you! One love.
Tracklist: Do you guys have the support of your family so that the band can grow in the music scenario? How is your relationship between you guys and your family when it comes to the music?
Katakomb: Well, yeah. Don’t think any of us have had their parent raging in to the rehearsal room and pulling the plug, trying to make us study economy or something. Not in the last decade anyway. From time to time they even show up on our gigs and gives us a supportive tap on the shoulder.
Tracklist: What is the artist or band do you guys most look forward to do a contribution in the future?
Katakomb: It would be great to make an album together with a symphony orchestra. Write way too much harmonies and way too big arrangements. Put the hubris shoes on. That would be cool!
Tracklist: Do you guys want to come visit Brazil or any other country? If yes, which one?
Katakomb: We would love to visit Brazil, or any other South American country for that matter. Give us a gig and we’ll be there in no time!
Tracklist: Now say what you want, talk whatever you want, send a message to Brazil and our music website, the TRACKLIST!
Katakomb: Just want to say that since Sweden is out of the picture, we hold our thumbs for you guys in the upcoming world cup!
Take it easy!
